أنقذت مالطا، نحو 60 مهاجراً أفريقياً، اليوم (الجمعة)، بعد انقلاب قاربهم قبالة سواحل الجزيرة المتوسطية، في واحدة من أكبر المجموعات التي وصلت إلى مالطا في السنوات الأخيرة، مما أثار مخاوف جديدة حول مخاطر الهجرة غير الشرعية عبر البحر المتوسط.

إنقاذ مهاجرين أفارقة في مالطا

وصلت المجموعة إلى ميناء بوغيبا، الذي يبعد نحو 16 كيلومتراً شمال العاصمة فاليتا، بعد عملية إنقاذ سريعة أطلقتها القوات المالطية عقب إشارة استغاثة تلقاها مركز التنسيق للإنقاذ في الساعة 8:43 صباحاً.

المهاجرون ملفوفون تحت الخيام

وأفاد شهود عيان أن عدة سيارات إسعاف ووحدات شرطة كثيفة انتشرت في الموقع، إذ شوهد المهاجرون ملفوفين بأغطية دافئة تحت الخيام، وبعضهم يُنقل على نقالات طبية.

وأكد مسؤولو الإنقاذ أن واحداً على الأقل من الوافدين في حالة طبية حرجة، مع إصابة آخرين بأعراض البرد الشديد، إذ كان بعضهم يسبح في المياه قبل الإنقاذ، بعد اكتشافهم بواسطة صياد أسماك خارج المياه الإقليمية المالطية.

تأتي هذه الحادثة في وقت شهد فيه وصول المهاجرين عبر القوارب الصغيرة إلى مالطا انخفاضاً ملحوظاً، إذ سجل العام الماضي 2024 أكثر من 200 حالة فقط، مقارنة بأكثر من 2000 في عام 2020.

ويغادر معظم هؤلاء المهاجرين من ليبيا باتجاه إيطاليا، لكن مالطا غالباً ما تكون نقطة الوصول الأولى.

وفي الوقت الحالي، يصل معظم المهاجرين إلى الجزيرة عبر رحلات جوية من إيطاليا، إذ يبقون فترة أطول من السماح ويعملون بشكل غير قانوني، وفقاً لتقارير رسمية.

تعاون بين قبرص واليونان وإيطاليا وإسبانيا ومالطا

وفي اجتماع عقد في مالطا يوم 29 نوفمبر الماضي، أعلن وزراء الداخلية من قبرص واليونان وإيطاليا وإسبانيا ومالطا أن تعزيز العلاقات مع دول المنشأ والعبور هو المفتاح لمواجهة الهجرة غير النظامية.

وقال وزير الداخلية المالطي بايرون كاميليري خلال الاجتماع: موقفنا هو إنقاذ الأرواح، إذا كنتم تستحقون اللجوء، ستحصلون عليه، وإلا ستتم إعادتكم.

وأضاف كاميليري أن مالطا تتعاون مع ليبيا لمنع مغادرة المهاجرين، من خلال تدريب حراس السواحل الليبيين، مشدداً على أن كل رحلة بحرية غير شرعية تحمل خطر الموت، وبالتالي فإن العمل مع ليبيا لمنع العبور ينقذ الأرواح أيضاً.

كما شدد قائلاً: يجب أن تكون أوروبا هي التي تقرر من يدخل.

وتستمر السلطات المالطية في تقديم الرعاية الطبية والإجراءات القانونية للوافدين، مع التركيز على التحقق من طلبات اللجوء، وسط دعوات من منظمات حقوقية لتقديم دعم نفسي فوري للناجين، خصوصاً الأكثر ضعفاً، بدلاً من نقلهم إلى مراكز الاحتجاز.

Malta rescued about 60 African migrants today (Friday) after their boat capsized off the coast of the Mediterranean island, in one of the largest groups to arrive in Malta in recent years, raising new concerns about the dangers of illegal migration across the Mediterranean.

The group arrived at the port of Bugibba, located about 16 kilometers north of the capital Valletta, after a swift rescue operation launched by Maltese forces following a distress signal received by the rescue coordination center at 8:43 AM.

Migrants Wrapped Under Tents

Witnesses reported that several ambulances and a heavy police presence were deployed at the site, where migrants were seen wrapped in warm blankets under tents, with some being transported on medical stretchers.

Rescue officials confirmed that at least one of the arrivals was in critical medical condition, with others showing severe cold symptoms, as some had been swimming in the water before being rescued, after being spotted by a fisherman outside Maltese territorial waters.

This incident comes at a time when the arrival of migrants via small boats to Malta has seen a noticeable decline, with last year, 2024, recording only over 200 cases, compared to more than 2000 in 2020.

Most of these migrants depart from Libya heading towards Italy, but Malta often serves as the first point of arrival.

Currently, most migrants are reaching the island via flights from Italy, where they stay longer than permitted and work illegally, according to official reports.

Cooperation Between Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Malta

At a meeting held in Malta on November 29, interior ministers from Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Malta announced that strengthening relations with countries of origin and transit is key to addressing irregular migration.

Maltese Interior Minister Byron Camilleri stated during the meeting: Our position is to save lives; if you deserve asylum, you will receive it; otherwise, you will be returned.

Camilleri added that Malta is cooperating with Libya to prevent migrants from departing, by training Libyan coast guards, emphasizing that every illegal sea journey carries the risk of death, and thus working with Libya to prevent crossings also saves lives.

He also stressed: Europe must be the one to decide who enters.

Maltese authorities continue to provide medical care and legal procedures for arrivals, focusing on verifying asylum requests, amid calls from human rights organizations to provide immediate psychological support to survivors, especially the most vulnerable, instead of transferring them to detention centers.
