في ليلة مثقلة بالإثارة، شهدت سينالوا المكسيكية نهاية مطاردة طال انتظارها، بعدما تمكن الجيش المكسيكي من قتل بيدرو إنزونزا كورونيل، المعروف بلقب «بيشون»، خلال عملية أمنية حاسمة، أنهت أحد أكثر ملفات المخدرات دموية وغموضاً في البلاد.
كورونيل، المطلوب لدى الولايات المتحدة بتهم تهريب الفنتانيل والكوكايين، وارتكاب جرائم عنف مروعة، لم يجد مهرباً من قوات البحرية المكسيكية، التي تصدت له ولخليّته المسلحة بكل حزم. العملية أسفرت أيضاً عن اعتقال عنصرين آخرين من شبكته الإجرامية، بعد مواجهة حامية شهدت تبادلاً مباشراً للتهديد والرد.
وأكد وزير الأمن المكسيكي عمر غارسيا حرفوش، في بيان على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي: «عند مهاجمتهم أفراد البحرية، فقد بيدرو حياته.. العدالة أخيراً ألقت القبض على أحد أخطر المجرمين».
وكان كورونيل ووالده متهمين لدى وزارة العدل الأمريكية بالإرهاب المرتبط بالمخدرات، والاتجار غير المشروع، وغسل الأموال، وقيادة فصيل تابع لعصابة «بلتران ليفا»، التي تركت إرثاً من القتل والاختطاف والتعذيب في شمال غرب المكسيك.
On a night heavy with excitement, the Mexican state of Sinaloa witnessed the end of a long-awaited chase, as the Mexican army managed to kill Pedro Enzunza Coronel, known by the nickname "Pichón," during a decisive security operation that concluded one of the country's most bloody and mysterious drug cases.
Coronel, wanted by the United States on charges of trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, and committing horrific acts of violence, found no escape from the Mexican Navy forces, who confronted him and his armed cell resolutely. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two other members of his criminal network, following a heated confrontation that involved direct exchanges of threats and responses.
Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch confirmed in a statement on social media: "When they attacked the Navy personnel, Pedro lost his life... Justice has finally captured one of the most dangerous criminals."
Coronel and his father were accused by the U.S. Department of Justice of drug-related terrorism, illegal trafficking, money laundering, and leading a faction associated with the "Beltrán Leyva" cartel, which left a legacy of murder, kidnapping, and torture in northwestern Mexico.
