أحرج حارس المنتخب السعودي ونادي النصر نواف العقيدي صحفياً عمانياً خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي عُقد اليوم قبل مواجهة المنتخب السعودي وشقيقه العماني في المباراة التي ستقام مساء غدٍ (الثلاثاء) على استاد المدينة التعليمية، ضمن منافسات الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات لكأس العرب، بعد سؤاله عن سبب عدم انعكاس قوة الدوري السعودي على نتائج المنتخب، حيث قال: «اسمي نواف العقيدي إذا لم تكن تعرف، وأما بخصوص سؤالك، فنحن مع قيادتنا في ملف تطور الدوري السعودي، والمليارات هي ملياراتنا نضخها وين ما نبي، والتطور ملحوظ، نلمسه في كل جانب»، وأضاف: «مواجهتنا مع منتخب عمان الشقيق دائماً نتفوق فيها، وكعبنا أعلى، ووصولنا إلى مونديال 2026 خير دليل على تطورنا وتفوقنا»، لافتاً للثقة الكبيرة في زملائه اللاعبين وقدرتهم على تقديم مباريات قوية، وقال: «نحن مستعدون بدنياً وذهنياً للبطولة، وهدفنا إسعاد الجماهير وتحقيق أفضل النتائج».

يُذكر أن المنتخب الوطني يأتي في المجموعة الثانية ضمن بطولة كأس العرب، إلى جانب منتخبات المغرب، وعمان، وجزر القمر.
