تحولت حياة شابة أمريكية موهوبة إلى مأساة صادمة بعد أن انتهت رحلتها مع الحياة نتيجة ضغوط نفسية حادة تعرضت لها في عملها، والتي وصلت ذروتها بعد قرار فصلها من وظيفتها، وسط اتهامات من عائلتها للشركة بسلوك قاسٍ وغير إنساني.

وبحسب دعوى قضائية أمام المحكمة العليا في مانهاتن، فقد أقدمت آني سورمان البالغة من العمر 28 عامًا، على إنهاء حياتها بعد معاناة طويلة مع القلق والاكتئاب الناتجين عن ضغط العمل في شركة MongoDB المتخصصة في تخزين البيانات، والتي تبلغ قيمتها السوقية نحو 35 مليار دولار.

وتشير وثائق القضية إلى أن سورمان، خريجة جامعة كولومبيا ومتدربة سابقة في وكالة «ناسا»، كانت تعمل كمديرة برامج تقنية، وتلقت موافقة أولية على إجازة مرضية للعلاج النفسي المكثف، إلا أن الشركة تراجعت فجأة عن هذا القرار، وقطعت عنها التأمين الصحي، مطالبة إياها بالعودة للعمل خلال أيام.

وعبرت الشابة في رسائلها المتكررة إلى والديها عن معاناتها الشديدة، حيث كانت عاجزة عن أداء أبسط المهام اليومية، وتعاني من أفكار انتحارية متكررة. وبعد فصلها رسميًا من العمل، حاولت سورمان الانتحار باستخدام مادة قاتلة، وتمكنت والدتها من إنقاذها مؤقتًا قبل أن تُنقل إلى مستشفى للأمراض النفسية.

لكن المأساة لم تتوقف، إذ حاولت سورمان مرة ثانية الانتحار باستخدام نفس المادة، وأبلغت الطوارئ بنفسها قبل أن تفارق الحياة أثناء نقلها إلى المستشفى. وتركزت رسالة وداعها على كلمات مؤثرة قالت فيها: «لمن يهمه الأمر: أنا أحبكم، أحبكم جميعًا، أنا آسفة.. أحبكم».

واتهمت العائلة شركة MongoDB بممارسة سلوك غير إنساني حتى بعد وفاة ابنتهم، معتبرة أن فصلها جاء قبل تسريح جماعي للموظفين لتجنب دفع مستحقاتها، مؤكدين أن سورمان لم تكن تعاني أي اضطرابات نفسية قبل التحاقها بالشركة.

ولم تصدر الشركة أي تعليق رسمي على الاتهامات حتى اللحظة، وسط موجة استنكار واسعة على وسائل التواصل حول ضغوط العمل وتأثيرها على الصحة النفسية للموظفين.

The life of a talented young American woman turned into a shocking tragedy after her journey with life ended due to severe psychological pressures she faced at work, which peaked after her dismissal from her job, amid accusations from her family against the company of cruel and inhumane behavior.

According to a lawsuit filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, 28-year-old Annie Surman took her own life after a long struggle with anxiety and depression resulting from work pressure at MongoDB, a data storage company valued at around $35 billion.

Documents from the case indicate that Surman, a Columbia University graduate and former intern at NASA, was working as a technical program manager and had received initial approval for sick leave for intensive psychological treatment. However, the company suddenly reversed this decision, cut off her health insurance, and demanded that she return to work within days.

The young woman expressed her severe suffering in repeated messages to her parents, stating that she was unable to perform even the simplest daily tasks and was suffering from recurring suicidal thoughts. After her formal dismissal from work, Surman attempted suicide using a lethal substance, and her mother was able to temporarily save her before she was taken to a psychiatric hospital.

But the tragedy did not stop there, as Surman attempted suicide a second time using the same substance and called emergency services herself before she passed away while being transported to the hospital. Her farewell message focused on poignant words in which she said: "To whom it may concern: I love you, I love you all, I'm sorry.. I love you."

The family accused MongoDB of inhumane behavior even after their daughter's death, considering that her dismissal came before a mass layoff of employees to avoid paying her entitlements, asserting that Surman had not suffered from any mental disorders prior to joining the company.

The company has not issued any official comment on the accusations so far, amid a widespread outcry on social media regarding work pressures and their impact on employees' mental health.
