غير أن المشكلة الأكبر ليست في تأخر الاكتشاف، بل في الخوف من رد فعل المجتمع. فالبعض يكتشف أنه شاعر، لكنه يتراجع خشية سؤال الناس: متى أصبحت شاعراً؟ ولم نرَ ذلك من قبل؟ وربما يرى أن البيئة المحيطة لا تحتضن هذا النوع من الإبداع، فيخفي موهبته داخل نفسه. وهناك من يكتشف أن لديه موهبة إعلامية في الإلقاء، أو التحليل، أو الظهور المرئي لكنه يخشى من كلمات محبطة أو تعليقات ساخرة فيتوقف عند أول خطوة.

وتتكرر الصورة في مجالات الفن والموسيقى والتمثيل والرياضة. فكم من لاعبٍ أو فنانٍ أو مصوّرٍ أو فنان تشكيلي لم يبرز إلا متأخراً، وكم من موهبة دفنت نفسها بسبب الخجل أو عقدة المقارنة أو الخوف من التجربة. بينما الواقع يؤكد أن الموهبة لا تقاس بسن مبكر، بل بالقدرة على الاستمرار والإصرار على تطوير الذات.

فالتجارب العالمية والمحلية تثبت أن كثيراً من المبدعين تألقوا في عمر متأخر، بل إن بعضهم صنع أفضل إنجازاته بعد الأربعين أو الخمسين، لأن النضج يمنح الموهبة بُعداً أعمق وهدوءاً أكبر.
