أعلنت وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية (ناسا) أن مركبتها الفضائية «PUNCH» وثقت ظهور المذنب «3I/ATLAS» القادم من خارج النظام الشمسي، ضمن مشاهد فريدة التقطتها أثناء تتبعها مذنباً آخر داخل المجموعة الشمسية.
وأوضحت «ناسا» أن المركبة التقطت تسجيلاً زمنياً على مدار 40 يوماً لرصد التغيرات في ذيل مذنب يدعى «SWAN»، وفي نهاية هذا التسلسل ظهر المذنب «3I/ATLAS»، وهو من المذنبات التي دخلت النظام الشمسي من خارج المجموعة الشمسية.
وأضافت الوكالة أن ظهور «3I/ATLAS» في هذه المشاهد يوفر بيانات مهمة حول طبيعة سلوكه، مشيرةً إلى أن الصور الأولى تُظهر أنه يشبه المذنبات التقليدية من حيث انبعاث الغبار واستجابة الذيل للرياح الشمسية، رغم اختلاف البيئة التي نشأ فيها.
وأشارت «ناسا» إلى أن تتبع تغير ذيل المذنب يساعد في فهم مكوناته وآلية تفاعله مع محيطه أثناء مروره بالقرب من الشمس، لا سيما أن التحليل الأولي يشير إلى نشاط ملحوظ في الغبار والغاز، بينما تستمر فرق البحث في دراسة الخصائص الأخرى التي ظهر بعضها غير مألوف.
ويواصل العلماء تحليل البيانات التي جمعتها المركبة لتحديد مكونات المذنب وفهم سلوكه قبل مغادرته النظام الشمسي عائداً إلى الفضاء العميق.
The American space agency (NASA) announced that its spacecraft "PUNCH" captured the appearance of the comet "3I/ATLAS," which is coming from outside the solar system, in unique scenes it recorded while tracking another comet within the solar system.
NASA explained that the spacecraft captured a time-lapse recording over 40 days to observe changes in the tail of a comet called "SWAN," and at the end of this sequence, the comet "3I/ATLAS" appeared, which is one of the comets that entered the solar system from outside the solar system.
The agency added that the appearance of "3I/ATLAS" in these scenes provides important data about the nature of its behavior, noting that the first images show it resembles traditional comets in terms of dust emission and tail response to solar winds, despite the different environment in which it originated.
NASA pointed out that tracking the changes in the comet's tail helps in understanding its components and the mechanism of its interaction with its surroundings as it passes near the sun, especially since preliminary analysis indicates significant activity in dust and gas, while research teams continue to study other characteristics, some of which appear to be unusual.
Scientists continue to analyze the data collected by the spacecraft to determine the comet's components and understand its behavior before it leaves the solar system, returning to deep space.
