في خطوة دراماتيكية تُلقي بظلالها على أولمبياد جنوب شرق آسيا، أعلنت كمبوديا، اليوم (الأربعاء) انسحاب فريقها الرياضي الكامل من الدورة الـ33 لألعاب جنوب شرق آسيا المقامة في تايلند، بعد يوم واحد فقط من حضور حفل الافتتاح في ملعب راجامانغالا الوطني ببانكوك، وذلك بسبب تصعيد النزاع الحدودي بين البلدين الذي يدخل يومه الثالث.
انسحاب كمبوديا من دورة ألعاب جنوب شرق آسيا
وفي رسالة رسمية موجهة إلى الاتحاد الجنوب شرق آسيوي للألعاب، أكدت اللجنة الأولمبية الوطنية الكمبودية أن القرار جاء «بناءً على مخاوف خطيرة» وطلبات عاجلة من عائلات الرياضيين لإعادتهم فورًا إلى الوطن، مع التأكيد على أن «الانسحاب لم يُتَّخَذ بسهولة».
وقالت اللجنة: «يجب على اللجنة الأولمبية الوطنية الكمبودية سحب كامل الوفد الرياضي وترتيب عودتهم السريعة إلى كمبوديا لأسباب أمنية».
تقليص الوفد الكمبودي
وكان الوفد الكمبودي، الذي يضم نحو 30 رياضيًا فقط بعد تقليص العدد الأصلي الذي كان يُقدَّر بأكثر من 1500 عضو، قد شارك في موكب الافتتاح، أمس الثلاثاء، حيث أشادت اللجنة بـ«الترحيب الدافئ» من الجهات التايلاندية.
توترات متزايدة بين تايلند وكمبوديا
ويأتي الانسحاب الكامل بعد أن سبق لكمبوديا الانسحاب من ثماني رياضات سابقًا، في ظل التوترات المتزايدة على الحدود المشتركة، التي اندلعت يوم الاثنين الماضي في الاشتباك الثاني الكبير هذا العام، مُدَمِّرًا الهدنة الهشة التي توسط فيها الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب في يوليو الماضي، والتي أعقبها إعلان مشترك في أكتوبر تضمَّن صفقات تجارية جديدة.
وأدَّت الاشتباكات الشديدة، التي شملت تبادل إطلاق نار مدفعي كثيف وغارات جوية من مقاتلات تايلندية، إلى مقتل 14 شخصًا على الأقل (بما في ذلك أربعة جنود تايلنديين وستة مدنيين كمبوديين) وإصابة 88 آخرين، مع نزوح أكثر من 500 ألف شخص من منازلهم في الجانبين، متجاوزًا أعداد النازحين في الاشتباكات السابقة هذا العام.
تفاصيل الخلاف بين تايلند وكمبوديا
ويعود النزاع إلى خلافات تاريخية حول الحدود، بدأت في مايو 2025 بمقتل جندي كمبودي في تبادل إطلاق نار، مما أدَّى إلى خمسة أيام من القتال قبل تدخل ترمب.
وفي الانتهاك الأخير، اتهمت تايلند كمبوديا بإطلاق النار أولاً، بينما نفت "بنوم بنه" ذلك، مما أدَّى إلى تعليق الإجراءات التهدئة المتَّفق عليها في قمة أكتوبر بعد إصابة جندي تايلندي بنقطة أرضية.
دورة ألعاب جنوب شرق آسيا المقامة في تايلند
وتُقام الألعاب هذا العام في بانكوك وتشونبوري وسونغخلا حتى 20 ديسمبر الجاري، بمشاركة آلاف الرياضيين من 11 دولة الآن بعد انسحاب كمبوديا، في منافسات تشمل كرة القدم والسيوف والتزلج على اللوح والإبحار والرياضات القتالية.
وكانت كمبوديا قد احتلت المركز الرابع في جدول الميداليات في الدورة السابقة التي استضافتها عام 2023، محققة 81 ذهبية.
وأعرب مسؤولون في الاتحاد الجنوب شرق آسيوي عن أسفهم، مع التأكيد على أن الانسحاب «مؤكَّد»، بينما شدَّدت اللجنة الكمبودية على اعتذارها عن أي إزعاج، مع التركيز على سلامة الوفد.
In a dramatic move casting a shadow over the Southeast Asian Games, Cambodia announced today (Wednesday) the withdrawal of its entire sports team from the 33rd Southeast Asian Games being held in Thailand, just one day after attending the opening ceremony at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, due to the escalation of the border dispute between the two countries, which has entered its third day.
Cambodia's Withdrawal from the Southeast Asian Games
In an official message addressed to the Southeast Asian Games Federation, the Cambodian National Olympic Committee confirmed that the decision was made "based on serious concerns" and urgent requests from the athletes' families to return them home immediately, emphasizing that "the withdrawal was not taken lightly."
The committee stated: "The Cambodian National Olympic Committee must withdraw the entire sports delegation and arrange for their swift return to Cambodia for security reasons."
Reduction of the Cambodian Delegation
The Cambodian delegation, which includes only about 30 athletes after reducing the original number estimated at over 1,500 members, participated in the opening parade yesterday, Tuesday, where the committee praised the "warm welcome" from the Thai authorities.
Increasing Tensions Between Thailand and Cambodia
The complete withdrawal comes after Cambodia had previously withdrawn from eight sports amid rising tensions along the shared border, which flared up last Monday in the second major clash this year, destroying the fragile truce mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump last July, followed by a joint announcement in October that included new trade deals.
The intense clashes, which involved heavy artillery fire and airstrikes from Thai fighter jets, resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people (including four Thai soldiers and six Cambodian civilians) and injured 88 others, with over 500,000 people displaced from their homes on both sides, surpassing the number of displaced individuals in previous clashes this year.
Details of the Dispute Between Thailand and Cambodia
The dispute dates back to historical disagreements over the borders, which began in May 2025 with the killing of a Cambodian soldier in a gunfire exchange, leading to five days of fighting before Trump's intervention.
In the latest violation, Thailand accused Cambodia of firing first, while "Phnom Penh" denied this, leading to the suspension of the agreed-upon de-escalation measures from the October summit after a Thai soldier was injured by ground fire.
The Southeast Asian Games Held in Thailand
This year's games are being held in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla until December 20, with thousands of athletes from 11 countries now participating after Cambodia's withdrawal, in competitions including football, fencing, skateboarding, sailing, and combat sports.
Cambodia had ranked fourth in the medal table at the previous edition it hosted in 2023, achieving 81 gold medals.
Officials from the Southeast Asian Federation expressed their regret, confirming that the withdrawal is "confirmed," while the Cambodian committee emphasized its apology for any inconvenience, focusing on the safety of the delegation.
