الأرض.. على موعد مع شهب التوأميات - وضوح نيوز

يشهد العالم هذه الأيام تساقط شهب التوأميات، التي يمكن رصدها خلال الليالي الجارية، وتُعد من أغزر زخّات الشهب السنوية، إذ يمكن في الظروف المثالية رصد أكثر من 120 شهاباً في الساعة.

وبيَّن رئيس جمعية نور الفلك بمنطقة القصيم عيسى الغفيلي، أن التوأميات تنشط من بداية ديسمبر حتى ثلثه الأخير، ويمكن رصدها في أي ليلة خلال فترة نشاطها، وسُمِّيت بهذا الاسم نسبةً إلى مجموعة نجوم التوأم التي تبدو للمراقب وكأن الشهب تنطلق منها.

وأفاد الغفيلي، أن سبب تساقط شهب التوأميات يعود إلى تقاطع الأرض مع المسار الغباري للكويكب فايتون 3200، وتدخل حبيبات الغبار إلى الغلاف الجوي محدثةً خطوطاً ضوئية وكراتٍ نارية بألوان مختلفة.

وتبلغ الظاهرة هذا العام ذروتها آخر ليل السبت 22 جمادى الآخرة، حتى فجر الأحد؛ ويُعد أفضل وقت لرصدها عند الساعة الـ2:00 من صباح الأحد، إذ يُتوقَّع أن يبلغ أقصى عدد يمكن رصده من داخل المدن نحو 9 شهب في الساعة، ومن خارج التجمعات السكانية نحو 60 شهاباً في الساعة، بينما يتمكن الراصدون في المناطق البعيدة عن التلوّث الضوئي من رصد نحو 90 شهاباً في الساعة.

The world is currently witnessing the Geminid meteor shower, which can be observed during the ongoing nights, and is considered one of the richest annual meteor showers, with the potential to see over 120 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.

The president of the Noor Astronomy Association in the Al-Qassim region, Issa Al-Ghafili, explained that the Geminids are active from the beginning of December until the last third of the month, and they can be observed on any night during their active period. They are named after the constellation Gemini, from which the meteors appear to emanate to the observer.

Al-Ghafili stated that the reason for the Geminid meteor shower is the intersection of Earth with the dusty trail of the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, as dust particles enter the atmosphere, creating light streaks and fireballs in various colors.

This year, the phenomenon will peak on the night of Saturday, the 22nd of Jumada Al-Thani, until dawn on Sunday; the best time to observe it is at 2:00 AM on Sunday, when it is expected that the maximum number observable from within cities will be around 9 meteors per hour, and from outside urban areas about 60 meteors per hour, while observers in areas far from light pollution can see around 90 meteors per hour.
