في خطوة تبدو وكأنها خرجت من أفلام الخيال العلمي، أعلنت روسيا عن خطتها لبناء محطة طاقة نووية على سطح القمر خلال العقد القادم، لتوفير الطاقة لبرنامجها الفضائي القمري ودعم محطة أبحاث روسية صينية مشتركة، في سباق محتدم بين القوى الكبرى لاستكشاف الفضاء الخارجي.
عودة روسيا إلى سباق الفضاء
منذ أن أصبح رائد الفضاء السوفيتي يوري جاجارين أول إنسان ينطلق إلى الفضاء عام 1961، اعتادت روسيا على الريادة في استكشاف الكون. لكن العقود الأخيرة شهدت تراجعاً أمام الولايات المتحدة والصين، خصوصاً بعد حادثة اصطدام مركبة الفضاء غير المأهولة «لونا 25» بسطح القمر عام 2023، في حين أحدثت شركات خاصة مثل «سبيس إكس» بقيادة إيلون ماسك ثورة في قطاع إطلاق المركبات الفضائية.
محطة قمرية للطاقة المستدامة
وقالت وكالة الفضاء الروسية «روسكوسموس» إن المشروع يهدف إلى تزويد البرنامج القمري الروسي بالطاقة، بما يشمل المركبات الجوالة، والمراصد، والبنية التحتية لمحطة الأبحاث الروسية الصينية المشتركة على القمر.
وأشارت الوكالة إلى توقيع عقد مع شركة «لافوتشكين أسوسييشن» للقيام بتنفيذ المشروع بحلول 2036، في خطوة وصفوها بأنها نقلة نوعية من بعثات فردية قصيرة المدى إلى برنامج طويل الأمد لاستكشاف القمر.
الطاقة النووية وراء المستقبل القمري
ورغم أن «روسكوسموس» لم تصرح صراحة بأن المحطة ستكون نووية، فإن مشاركة شركة «روس آتوم» الحكومية والمعهد الروسي كورتشاتوف، أكبر مركز للأبحاث النووية في روسيا، تشير بقوة إلى أن الطاقة النووية ستكون المحرك الرئيس للمشروع.
يأتي هذا الإعلان في سياق تعزيز روسيا لمكانتها في الفضاء، وسط سباق عالمي تتنافس فيه القوى الكبرى على كل شبر من سطح القمر، وكأننا نشهد اليوم ولادة فصل جديد من عصر استكشاف الفضاء.
In a move that seems straight out of science fiction films, Russia has announced its plan to build a nuclear power station on the surface of the Moon over the next decade, to provide energy for its lunar space program and support a joint Russian-Chinese research station, in an intense race among major powers to explore outer space.
Russia's Return to the Space Race
Since Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to venture into space in 1961, Russia has been accustomed to leading the exploration of the cosmos. However, recent decades have seen a decline in its position against the United States and China, especially after the unmanned spacecraft "Luna 25" crashed on the Moon's surface in 2023, while private companies like SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, have revolutionized the space launch sector.
A Lunar Station for Sustainable Energy
The Russian space agency "Roscosmos" stated that the project aims to supply the Russian lunar program with energy, including rovers, observatories, and the infrastructure for the joint Russian-Chinese research station on the Moon.
The agency noted that a contract has been signed with the "Lavochkin Association" to implement the project by 2036, in a move they described as a qualitative leap from short-term individual missions to a long-term program for lunar exploration.
Nuclear Power Behind the Lunar Future
Although "Roscosmos" has not explicitly stated that the station will be nuclear, the involvement of the state-owned company "Rosatom" and the Kurchatov Institute, the largest nuclear research center in Russia, strongly indicates that nuclear energy will be the main driver of the project.
This announcement comes as Russia seeks to enhance its position in space, amid a global race where major powers compete for every inch of the Moon's surface, as if we are witnessing the birth of a new chapter in the era of space exploration today.
