تحوّل ملهى ليلي شهير في ولاية غوا الهندية إلى مأساة مروّعة، بعدما اندلع حريق هائل منتصف الليل وأودى بحياة ما لا يقل عن 25 شخصاً. وبينما تصاعدت ألسنة اللهب من المبنى التابع لأحد الفنادق في منطقة أربورا، هرعت فرق الطوارئ في سباق مع الزمن لإجلاء الضحايا والسيطرة على الحريق الذي هزّ واحدة من أشهر الوجهات السياحية في الهند.
وأعرب رئيس الوزراء الهندي ناريندرا مودي عن «حزنه العميق» إزاء الحريق المروع الذي اندلع داخل الملهى الليلي في غوا. وفي السياق نفسه، عبّر رئيس وزراء الولاية برامود ساوانت، عن أسفه الشديد لما وقع، موضحاً أن «عدداً من موظفي الفندق وثلاثة أو أربعة سياح لقوا حتفهم اختناقاً»، من دون الكشف عن جنسيات الضحايا.
وأظهرت مشاهد بثّتها وكالة «برس تراست أوف إنديا» طواقم الإسعاف وهي تنقل المصابين والجثث عبر درج حجري ضيق في فندق «بيرش».
وأكد ساوانت، خلال زيارة للموقع، أنه أمر بفتح تحقيق عاجل في ملابسات الحادث، مشدداً على أن «المسؤولين عنه سيواجهون أشد الإجراءات القانونية»، ومتوعداً بمحاسبة أي جهة يثبت تقصيرها. واعتبر أن المأساة كانت قابلة للتفادي، مشيراً إلى أن الملهى كان يعمل دون ترخيص رسمي، وهو ما وصفه بأنه أحد العوامل التي أدت إلى وقوع الحريق.
من جهتها، نقلت وسائل إعلام محلية عن مصادر في الشرطة أن الحريق قد يكون ناجماً عن انفجار أسطوانة غاز داخل الملهى. فيما نقلت قناة «سي إن إن نيوز 18» عن رئيس جهاز الإطفاء في غوا، نيتين ف. رايكر، قوله إن «معظم الضحايا لقوا حتفهم اختناقاً في الطابق السفلي والمطبخ»، بعد أن «أشعل عرض للألعاب النارية أجزاء خشبية» داخل المكان، مما سرّع انتشار النار.
A famous nightclub in the Indian state of Goa turned into a horrific tragedy after a massive fire broke out at midnight, claiming the lives of at least 25 people. As flames erupted from the building belonging to a hotel in the Arpora area, emergency teams rushed against time to evacuate victims and control the fire that shook one of India's most famous tourist destinations.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his "deep sorrow" over the horrific fire that broke out inside the nightclub in Goa. In the same context, the Chief Minister of the state, Pramod Sawant, expressed his deep regret over what happened, explaining that "a number of hotel staff and three or four tourists died from asphyxiation," without revealing the nationalities of the victims.
Footage broadcast by the Press Trust of India showed rescue crews transporting the injured and bodies down a narrow stone staircase in the "Perch" hotel.
Sawant confirmed, during a visit to the site, that he had ordered an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the incident, emphasizing that "those responsible will face the strictest legal actions," and vowing to hold accountable any party found negligent. He considered the tragedy to be avoidable, pointing out that the nightclub was operating without an official license, which he described as one of the factors that led to the fire.
For its part, local media reported from police sources that the fire may have been caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder inside the nightclub. Meanwhile, CNN News 18 quoted the Chief Fire Officer of Goa, Nitin F. Raikar, as saying that "most of the victims died from asphyxiation in the basement and kitchen," after "a fireworks display ignited wooden parts" inside the venue, accelerating the spread of the fire.
