دُعي الملك تشارلز الثالث إلى سحب الألقاب الملكية من ابنه الأصغر الأمير هاري، دوق ساسكس، بعد ظهوره المثير للجدل في برنامج «ذا ليت شوز ويذ ستيفن كولبرت» الأمريكي، حيث سخر من الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، ووصف أمريكا بأنها «انتخبت ملكاً»، ما أثار صافرات إنذار دبلوماسية وإحراجاً للعائلة الملكية البريطانية.
ظهور في برنامج شهير
وظهر هاري، البالغ من العمر 41 عاماً، في مقطع كوميدي عُرض الأربعاء الماضي، في تجربة اختبار لدور «أمير عيد الميلاد» في فيلم تلفزيوني رومانسي من إنتاج قناة هولمارك.
وبدأ المقطع بتجول هاري في الاستوديو، مدعياً أنه «ضل الطريق» أثناء البحث عن اختبار لفيلم «أمير الزنجبيل ينقذ عيد الميلاد في نبراسكا»، ما أثار تصفيقاً حاراً ووقوفاً من الجمهور.
وسأل كولبرت، مقدم البرنامج الليبرالي الشهير، هاري عن سبب رغبته في المشاركة في مثل هذه الأفلام، فرد الدوق قائلاً: «أنتم الأمريكيون مهووسون بأفلام عيد الميلاد، ومن الواضح أنكم مهووسون بالملوكية أيضاً، فلم لا؟».
هاري يُهين ترمب
وعندما اعترض كولبرت على فكرة «الهوس بالملوكية»، رد هاري بنكتة: «حقاً؟ سمعت أنكم انتخبتم ملكاً»، في إشارة واضحة إلى ترمب، ما أثار صافرات استهجان وهتافات معارضة من الجمهور، مشيراً إلى احتجاجات «لا ملوك» التي شهدتها الولايات المتحدة في يونيو وأكتوبر الماضيين ضد إدارة ترمب.
واستمر الدوق في سخريته، مشيراً إلى تسوية شبكة «سي بي إس» الأخيرة مع ترمب في دعوى قضائية «بلا أساس» بقيمة 36 مليون دولار بشأن مقابلة كامالا هاريس في برنامج «60 دقيقة»، قائلاً إنه «سيفعل أي شيء» للحصول على الدور، مثل «تسجيل شريط ذاتي، أو تسوية دعوى بلا أساس مع البيت الأبيض، كل ما يفعله أهل التلفزيون هنا».
فرد كولبرت: «يا رجل، أنا لم أفعل أياً من ذلك»، فأجاب هاري: «ربما لهذا السبب أنتَ ملغى» (إشارة إلى إنهاء برنامج كولبرت في مايو 2026 بعد إعلان سي بي إس» في يوليو الماضي عن إنهاء مسيرته الـ33 عاماً).
عرض احتفالي ودعوات لسحب الألقاب
وتحول المقطع إلى مشهد احتفالي كامل، مع ظهور أشجار عيد ميلاد مفاجئة وثلج صناعي يتساقط، حيث دعا هاري كولبرت إلى «الإيمان فقط» ليحصل على الدور، قبل أن يعلن المقدم منح هاري لقب «أمير عيد الميلاد الرسمي لبرنامج ليت شوز» وسط هتافات الجمهور.
كما شارك الثنائي في فيديو قصير على وسائل التواصل يقلدان مقطعاً فايروسياً من برنامج «ذا غريت بريتش بايك أوف».
ويُعد هذا الظهور الثاني لهاري في البرنامج، بعد مقابلته في يناير 2023 للترويج لكتاب مذكراته «سبير»، التي حققت رقماً قياسياً في المشاهدة.
ومع ذلك، أثار المقطع غضباً في الأوساط البريطانية، حيث يُفترض بالأعضاء الملكيين الحفاظ على الحياد السياسي، ما يضع الملك تشارلز في موقف دبلوماسي صعب، خصوصاً مع توقع زيارة رسمية للولايات المتحدة العام القادم.
تحذيرات من خبراء ملكيين
في سياق متصل، حذّر توم سايكس، محرر أوروبي في «ذا ديلي بيست» ومؤلف نشرة «الروياليست»، من أن هذا الظهور «مُحرج وغير مدروس»، مشيراً إلى أن هاري «يعتقد أنه حر في التعبير عن رأيه بعد الانسحاب من الواجبات الملكية في 2020، لكنه لا يزال يُدعى أمير هاري، دوق ساسكس».
وأضاف سايكس: «العائلة الملكية ليس لديها خيار آخر، يجب سحب الألقاب ليس عقاباً، بل للوضوح، فإزالتها ترسم خطاً أزرق واضحاً بين الأمير هاري الملكي وهاري المواطن الخاص، ما يحمي الملكية من تقلباته».
وأيد ريتشارد فيتزويليامز، خبير ملكي آخر، وأكد أن النكتة «غير مناسبة الوقت»، معتبراً أن وصف جورج الثالث (جد هاري البعيد) بـ«الغبي» من كولبرت ينطبق على هاري نفسه، لكنه أضاف أن سحب اللقب «سيكون خطأً، إذ يُعتبر الأمران مختلفين تماماً».
كما وصف مارك بوليارد، خبير علاقات عامة بريطاني، الظهور بأنه «إحراج آخر، ودليل على أن جاذبية أمير بريطاني قد تلاشت في أمريكا، حيث يطارد هاري وميغان الشهرة عبر الأطلسي».

King Charles III has been urged to strip his younger son Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, of his royal titles following his controversial appearance on the American show "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," where he mocked U.S. President Donald Trump and described America as having "elected a king," triggering diplomatic alarms and embarrassment for the British royal family.
Appearance on a Famous Show
Harry, who is 41 years old, appeared in a comedic clip aired last Wednesday, auditioning for the role of "Christmas Prince" in a romantic TV movie produced by Hallmark.
The clip began with Harry wandering around the studio, claiming he had "lost his way" while searching for an audition for the film "The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska," which elicited warm applause and a standing ovation from the audience.
Colbert, the well-known liberal host, asked Harry why he wanted to participate in such films, to which the duke replied, "You Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies, and clearly, you’re obsessed with royalty too, so why not?"
Harry Insults Trump
When Colbert objected to the idea of "obsession with royalty," Harry responded with a joke: "Really? I heard you elected a king," in a clear reference to Trump, which drew boos and opposing chants from the audience, referencing the "No Kings" protests that took place in the U.S. last June and October against Trump's administration.
The duke continued his mockery, pointing to CBS's recent settlement with Trump over a "frivolous" $36 million lawsuit regarding an interview with Kamala Harris on "60 Minutes," saying he would "do anything" to get the role, like "record a self-tape or settle a frivolous lawsuit with the White House, whatever TV people do here."
Colbert replied, "Man, I haven't done any of that," to which Harry responded, "Maybe that's why you're canceled" (a reference to the end of Colbert's show in May 2026 after CBS announced last July the conclusion of his 33-year career).
Celebratory Segment and Calls to Strip Titles
The clip turned into a full celebratory scene, with surprise Christmas trees and artificial snow falling, as Harry urged Colbert to "just believe" to get the role, before the host announced Harry as the "official Christmas Prince of The Late Show" amidst cheers from the audience.
The duo also participated in a short video on social media imitating a viral clip from "The Great British Bake Off."
This marks Harry's second appearance on the show, following his interview in January 2023 to promote his memoir "Spare," which achieved record viewership.
However, the clip sparked outrage in British circles, where royal members are expected to maintain political neutrality, placing King Charles in a difficult diplomatic position, especially with an official visit to the United States expected next year.
Warnings from Royal Experts
In related news, Tom Sykes, a European editor at "The Daily Beast" and author of the "Royalist" newsletter, warned that this appearance was "embarrassing and ill-considered," noting that Harry "thinks he is free to express his opinion after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, but he is still called Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex."
Sykes added, "The royal family has no other option; titles must be stripped not as a punishment, but for clarity. Removing them draws a clear blue line between royal Prince Harry and private citizen Harry, protecting the monarchy from his fluctuations."
Richard Fitzwilliams, another royal expert, supported this view, stating that the joke was "inappropriate timing," considering Colbert's description of George III (Harry's distant grandfather) as "stupid" applies to Harry himself, but he added that stripping the title "would be a mistake, as the two matters are entirely different."
Mark Bolland, a British public relations expert, described the appearance as "another embarrassment, and evidence that the appeal of a British prince has faded in America, as Harry and Meghan chase fame across the Atlantic."
Tension with Trump and the Royal Family
This comes amid a history of tension between Harry and Trump, who described the duke and duchess Meghan Markle as "disrespectful to the royal family" after they stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Meghan has previously described Trump as "divisive and misogynistic," while Prince William, the heir to the throne, is believed to want "revenge" on his brother by removing the titles when he ascends to the throne, especially after Meghan used her title in her business campaigns, according to reports.
In the United States, the appearance elicited mixed reactions; some in the audience cheered for Harry, while the booing of his reference to Trump led to opposing chants, as seen in posts on Reddit calling for his titles to be stripped because he "insults our elected president."
It is noteworthy that King Charles stripped the title of prince from Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, last month due to his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, which adds pressure on Harry.
